About The Next Great British Invasion
American TV loves getting British shows and remaking them.

Sometimes you get The Office, which I'm told is great (I don't watch it).
Sometimes you get Coupling, a dreadful attempt to Americanize Whovian God Steven Moffat's sitcom.
Sometimes you get Doctor Who The Movie, which I think we'll call mixed.

Well now we're getting David Kelly's Life On Mars
Is this the David Kelly who gave the world the hard hitting dark drama, The Practice, or is this the David Kelly who gave the world the quirky to the extreme Aly McBeal?

Check out the trailer for yourself.

(Note to [info]kradical, you might want a shot of Thorazine handy for when [info]terri_osborne sees this.)

David E. Kelley only wrote the pilot for the American Life on Mars. The show's being given to other showrunners and is being retooled, so Kelley can focus on the final season of Boston Legal.

And Kelley's gonna remain listed as an executive producer, because he's just that important and it'll help sell the series....

And I would need Thorazine why? *confused*

I've been looking forward to seeing what Colm Meaney does with the Gene Hunt role. I'm not entirely convinced on Jason O'Mara as Sam, but he's a Dubliner, so I'll give him time.

Funny, the American version of the series, and you've got two Dubliners in the lead roles.

I've got to say I would much rather see Jaime Ray Newman instead of that lookalike in the Annie Cartwright role, but I'll live. Maybe if they decide to remake "Ashes to Ashes", they can get Newman to play Alex Drake.

I thought the..."now he's stuck in the 70's and a wacky time will be had by all"ness of the trailer might...pluck your strings.

I'm not talking bout the show, mind you. I'm purely talking about the..cheezefest that is the trailer.

I do agree on the Colm Meaney casting part.

I have mixed feelings about this. Colm Meaney is The World's Most Perfect Re-Casting as Hunt. Stephanie Jacobsen (Shaw in BSG: Razor) is in it, which is a definite plus. And the new show runners are a couple of guys, one of whom is the son of a friend of mine (specifically, the son of one of the black belts at the dojo).

The problem? Said son of friend and his writing partner were the ones responsible for October Road. In fact, running Life on Mars was kind of their consolation prize for their show being cancelled. And October Road was really bad..............

I am unimpressed. A lot of the Deep Stuff in Life on Mars was pretty damn shallow. Test Card Girl being "the devil in him" oh for crap sake, no, can we come up with anything more insipid?

And yeah, if it's done by American TV as a remake of the Brit stuff, we most certainly can and probably will.
